  • "Students at accredited educational institutions can learn how to design, construct and operate small unmanned aircraft (less than 55 pounds) as a component of a variety of science, technology and aviation-related coursework or for other educational purposes such as in connection with television, film or photography courses. These uses fall under hobby or recreational use, according to the FAA’s interpretation, and schools and students should follow all the same protocols as a hobbyist".

  • FAA Safety Guidelines
    • Fly at or below 400 feet
    • Be aware of airspace requirements and restrictions
    • Stay away from surrounding obstacles
    • Keep your UAS within sight
    • Never fly near other aircraft, especially near airports
    • Never fly over groups of people
    • Never fly over stadiums or sports events
    • Never fly near emergency response efforts such as fires
